Honoring Uganda’s fallen and living heroes who fought and sacrificed everything for the peace and Uganda we have

Kiboga. President Museveni has vowed to suppress persons who he said attempt to destabilise the prevailing peace in the country.
Speaking at Heroes’ Day celebrations at Katwe Primary School in Dwaniro Sub-county, Kiboga District yesterday, Mr Museveni said such persons will be defeated like the National Resistance Army (NRA) defeated the Uganda National Liberation Army (UNLA) forces.
“Anybody who tries to bring indiscipline shall be suppressed. Anything that is done in Uganda should be in a legal and disciplined way. We sacrificed a lot. We shall not allow anybody to destabilise our peace,” he said.
Mr Museveni, after the disputed 1980 elections, led the NRA rebels to wage a five–year guerilla war. The NRA overthrew the Tito Okello junta in 1986 and declared June 9 Heroes Day.
At Kambogo in Dwaniro, a decisive battle was fought between the UNLA and the NRA, resulting in the defeat of the UNLA.
“That was a decisive battle that brought down the UPC government. The war was finally won in this area,” Mr Museveni said.

Significance of venue
He added: “This sub-county is called Dwaniro. In the Bantu dialect, it means battlefield. The name also symbolises the old rivalry of Bunyoro and Buganda. It also became our dwaniro. It was not a fight between tribes but by peace- loving people.”
The President said the country has achieved a certain level of stability that must be preserved.
“Where we have reached, I don’t want to say is holy, but it is precious ground won with the blood of Ugandans. Anyone who tries to disrupt the peace, he will be defeated,” he said.
Mr Museveni, however, did not specify who his warning was directed at. He only repeatedly said lies, corruption and divisive talk will not be tolerated.
“Everyone must know their limit. Those who try (to destabilise) will fall into a snare.”
The President arrived at Dwaniro after a downpour, at midday and was driven straight to a mass grave, about 10kms from the day’s event venue, where he laid a wreath.
He spent some minutes reading the names of the dead persons inscribed on the plaque of the monument, then he bowed to pay homage.
Mr Museveni commended the residents of the area for embracing government’s Prosperity-for- All programme and for engaging in income-generating activities.
The chairman War Veterans Association, Mr Edrisa Ssedunga, said veterans are happy that their comrades Anthony Kyakabale and David Sejusa had returned home from exile.
