He has been the one under pressure this season, but under-pressure boss Erik ten Hag looks to have got one over his Manchester United employer Joel Glazer
A transfer disagreement between Erik ten Hag and Joel Glazer looks to have ended with the under-pressure Manchester United manager coming out on top.
Ten Hag is currently celebrating a strong end to a forgettable campaign that saw United finish 8th in the Premier League but qualify for the Europa League by winning the FA Cup. A final review is understood to be in the pipeline to decide the former Ajax manager’s future at Old Trafford.
If his premiership at the club is to end this summer, Ten Hag may depart with a wry smile as a key disagreement he reportedly had with Glazer has finished with him looking the better. It was an impasse concerning long-term United forward Anthony Martial.
The Frenchman has departed Old Trafford after nine under-whelming, injury-hit seasons at United. However, the former Monaco forward’s time at the club would have been even shorter, were it not for Glazer’s admiration for the player they signed in 2015 as the then-most expensive teenager in football history.

However, he was not able to out-stay Ten Hag, as United opted against activating the clause in his contract. The 2015 Golden Boy winner only made 13 Premier League appearances for United this season, scoring just one goal.
Martial penned a fond farewell to the Red Devils’ fan base on social media and on the pitch during United’s final Premier League home match against Newcastle. In a statement, he said: “After nine incredible years at the club, the time has come for me to turn a new page in my career.

“Since I arrived in 2015, I have had the immense honour of wearing this shirt and playing in front of you, the best supporters in the world! You have been an unwavering support, through the good times and the difficult.
