The police in Kampala have arrested two men suspected of being involved in a violent attack and robbery on Ben Kiwanuka Street earlier this week.
A video of the incident, captured on CCTV, has gone viral. It shows a young man repeatedly kicking a businessman before stealing his backpack. The attacker used a flying kick, a technique from taekwondo, which left the businessman shocked and unable to move. After the initial attack, the suspect continued to kick the man.
The main suspect, identified as Eric Mukisa, also known as Musoota, was arrested on Friday afternoon. He was captured along with several other suspects, including Nuru Imam, also known as Mutanzania, in the Nakivubo channel during a joint security operation led by the Police’s Crime Intelligence Unit.
Mukisa is now being interrogated by Crime Intelligence operatives at the Central Police Station in Kampala.
These arrests came after a night operation during which various parts of Kampala were searched, resulting in the arrest of over 100 suspects. The police have intensified their efforts to track down and apprehend all individuals involved in the assault.
Earlier, Luke Owoyesigyire, the deputy spokesperson for the Kampala Metropolitan Police, stated that they had launched an investigation following the circulation of a disturbing CCTV video on social media. The footage showed 40-year-old Tomson Mugisha, a resident of Kyebando, being attacked by unidentified assailants around 8 PM on May 22, 2024, on Ben Kiwanuka Street.
During the attack, Mugisha was robbed of 450,000 shillings, a bag containing important documents, keys, and a container.
The Kampala Metropolitan Police urge the public to remain vigilant and be aware of their surroundings. They encourage anyone who witnesses suspicious activities to raise an alarm or notify the police immediately. Public cooperation is essential in preventing such incidents and ensuring community safety.
