The Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) and the Uganda Coffee Development Authority (UCDA) have reached a cooperation agreement set to be signed in the coming days.
This announcement was made during a meeting where the UMSC department heads, led by Hon. Hadji Abbas Muluubya Ssekyanzi, the UMSC Secretary General, had a productive discussion with senior officials from the UCDA. The UCDA representatives, Eng. Tumwesigye Robert, Technical Extension Manager, and Cyiza Mathias, Regional Coffee Extension Officer, provided a detailed explanation of the entire coffee farming process, including value addition and the market chain.
Hadji Muluubya informed the guests that this initiative is part of the UMSC Ten-Year Strategic Development Plan. It aims to be adopted as a key intervention under nationwide social transformation efforts, categorized into four areas: each Muslim household, each community mosque land, idle UMSC land, and encouraging prominent people to undertake large-scale coffee farming. Hon. Counsel Haj Muhammad Ali Aluma, the Deputy Secretary General in charge of Finance and Administration, emphasized the need for training Muslim faithful before launching the coffee project. Additionally, Hon. Arinda Abdu-Razaaq, the Deputy Secretary General in charge of Planning and Development, revealed that the project will commence with the distribution of one million coffee seedlings to communities.
