KAMPALA METROPOLITAN POLICE DEPUTY SPOKESPERSON, ASP LUKE OWOYESIGYIRE CONFIRMED THE INCIDENT
Wakiso, (UG):- The Territorial Police in Wakiso District are holding in custody a 33-year-old man on allegations of stabbing his wife whom he found having an affair with another man at their marital home over the weekend.
The suspect identified as Mesarch Ssekanjako, 33, is accused of killing his wife, Proscovia Nakyanzi, also 33.
The Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy spokesperson, ASP Luke Owoyesigyire confirmed the incident, which he said occurred Saturday, May 19, at Nsinze-Mulume village, Masuulita sub-county in Wakiso district.
“It’s alleged that around 9 p.m., Nakyanzi went home with a man named Ivan. Ssekanjako allegedly found them in the house, which led to a fight. During the altercation, Ssekanjako is suspected of grabbing a knife and cutting Nakyanzi’s neck,” Owoyesigyire stated in a police statement.
Police said Nakyanzi’s body was recovered at around 10 a.m. on Sunday in the compound and a police sniffer dog led detectives to the home of Ssekanjako’s mother, where they found his trousers, which had been washed. The trousers were recovered for possible DNA traces.
Owoyesigyire said officers also found Ssekanjako’s shirt at the crime scene, along with blood stains suspected to be from the victim. Upon arrest, Ssekanjako had fresh cuts and bites on his right hand.
“The fight appears to have begun inside the couple’s double-roomed house. The rooms were in disarray, with suspected blood stains on the floors of both the living room and bedroom,” Owoyesigyire added.
Ssekanjako and his mother were both arrested and detained at Kakiri police station as investigations continue.
“The knife allegedly used in the murder is believed to have been discarded in the toilet. All evidence collected has been sent to the forensic lab for DNA analysis,” said the Kampala police spokesperson, before urging couples to seek peaceful resolutions to marital problems.
