Labour Cabinet Secretary Florence Bore on Tuesday, May 21, announced that 500 Kenyan nurses will be absorbed in five mega companies following consultative dialogues in Doha, Qatar.
The meeting, held between CS Bore and CEO of Estithmar Company Mohamed Bin Badr Al Sadah, resolved to improve labour relations between the two nations.
One of the highlights of the meetings involved the interest of Al Sadah in absorbing Kenyan nurses at the company.
Estithmar Company is a publicly listed company that houses five mega companies in the Gulf nation; Elegance Arabia, Elegancia Healthcare, Estithmar Ventures, Elegancia MEP (Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing) and Elegancia Services.
The company mainly deals in four strategic sectors; healthcare, service, ventures and industries.
“At the sidelines of the Dialogue on Labour Migration in Doha, Qatar which seeks to improve labour relations between the African sending countries and the GCC receiving countries,” CS Bore stated.
“I was able to meet Mr Mohamed Bin Badr Al Sadah the CEO of Estithmar Company, an Umbrella company for 5 mega-companies in the Gulf region, where we discussed the uptake of Kenyan workers into Qatar.”Â
“The CEO expressed interest in employing our workers and mentioned that at the moment they are employing healthcare workers and I’m delighted that from our meeting we secured placement of 500 nurses,” she added.
The deal forms part of the Bilateral Labour Agreements that the government has since entered with international countries to acquire job opportunities for Kenyans.
Some of these countries include Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom, Canada, France and Israel.
The BLA seeks to export labour to reduce the high rate of youth unemployment across the country.
Earlier in the year, the government sent 2,500 nurses to work in Saudi Arabia. In January 2024, CS Bore announced that the nurses would be paid Ksh150,000 monthly.Â
