Uganda is set to host the African Youth Congress (AYC) in 2024. This Congress is a big gathering of young leaders and change-makers from different parts of Africa. They come together to talk about important issues in Africa and find new ideas to solve them.
The Africa Kin Education Resource Centre (AKERC) announced that Uganda will be the host country for the 2024 AYC. This congress has been happening in different African countries since it started in 2014. It’s a good opportunity for young Africans to meet, learn, and work together.Rogers Kalema, from AKERC, said the Congress helps young Africans work together better.
They learn from each other and build connections. AKERC is a group of people from all over Africa who believe in the unity of Africa.
The Congress will happen in Kampala from September 10 to 11, 2024, at the Munyonyo Commonwealth Resort. The theme for this year is “Africanism: Modernise Along Culture.” There will be many activities like talks, workshops, and chances to meet new people.
The Congress will focus on important topics like starting businesses, leading well, education, health, and technology. They want young people to help Africa reach its goals for 2063 and the Sustainable Development Goals.
Kalema said they want young people from all over Africa to join the Congress. They expect over 1,000 people to come, including leaders, business people, activists, and students.
The President of Uganda, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, will be there as a special guest. Representatives from 55 countries and leaders from African groups like the African Union will also be there.
At a press conference, the State Minister of Youth and Children Affairs, Baraam Barugahara Ateenyi, talked about the importance of the Congress. He said young people should care about their country and culture. He also warned against corruption and urged young people to fight it.
Barugahara said the government is working on using technology responsibly. He wants social media to be used in a way that respects African culture and traditions.
