Disregard Social Media Marriage Counselors, Mufti Advises Muslim Couples

His Eminence Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, the Mufti of Uganda, has advised Muslim couples to disregard so-called social media marriage counselors. He described their content as shallow and devoid of useful spirituality. According to Islamic teachings derived from the Holy Quran and the sayings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), marriage is an act of worship (Ibada). “In most cases, those marriage counselors are indeed products of marriage failures who have, in turn, caused many marriage breakups,” Sheikh Mubaje remarked, drawing wide laughter from the smartly dressed guests. This statement was part of his impactful speech at the well-attended and colorful wedding reception of Mr. Fahad Byansi and Ms. Fazira Tabaro Mikidad. Mr. Byansi is a manager at Hariss International Limited, one of the leading manufacturers of food and beverages such as Riham Drinks. Ms. Mikidad is a Rwandese national and a professional healthcare provider. The function was held at the residence of Haj Erias Kirize, the groom’s father and a prominent cattle keeper, in Lwabitakuli Trading Centre, Sembabule District, on Saturday, May 17, 2024. Additionally, Mufti Mubaje advised the newly married couple that sharing each other’s phone PIN numbers could help build trust and cement their love. He also suggested that they delete the phone contacts of old acquaintances to avoid misunderstandings.
He further pledged to provide more guidance, having taken charge of their memorable life journey by officiating their marriage vows in the presence of their parents, relatives, religious leaders, and the wider public. Before concluding, Sheikh Mubaje asked Hon. Hanifa Kawooya Bagirana, the Woman Member of National Parliament representing Sembabule Local Government District, to convey his special tribute to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for his firm stance against LGBTQ vices in Uganda, despite the threats of regime change recently declared by the British Parliament, falsely insinuating it to be a part of human rights. He also highlighted that marriages between people of different nationalities would strengthen the spirit of the East African Federation.
Lastly, he urged the Muslim faithful to access the Parish Development Model funds earmarked by the government for poverty alleviation programs and to participate in the ongoing census exercise. Other speeches were delivered by Hon. Hanifa Kawooya Bagirana, the State Minister for General Duties, Primary Health Care, who spoke on behalf of the groom’s family; Hon. Counsel Haj Muhammad Ali Aluma, Deputy Secretary General in charge of Administration and Finance; and Sheikh Abdallah Semakula, the Kadhi of Sembabule Muslim District. Upon arrival, Mufti Mubaje had a guided tour of the Sembabule Muslim District Offices and conducted the marriage ceremony. The event was attended by UMSC departmental heads, Sheikh Hamid Sserwadda Busungu, Regional Assistant to the Mufti in incharge of Kampala Muslim Region, District Kadhis from neighbouring Muslim Districts of Lwengo, Rakai, Lyantonde, Kalangala, and Lubaga, politicians, and family members from Uganda and Rwanda.
