Simon Brown, 47 – known affectionately as Browny – loved visiting Thailand and travelling abroad.
His death has been met with ‘total shock and sadness’ in his community back home in Wales.
Simon’s friend Mark Davies said the news of his death was ‘so unexpected’ as ‘he wasn’t ill.’
Mark added: ‘There was nothing wrong with him. Everyone knew him. He was a crazy bloke – really outgoing and always up for a laugh.
‘He was a really hard worker as a machine operator and when he wasn’t working he was always on holiday. In particular he loved going to Thailand.
‘We don’t know anything at the moment as to the circumstances around it. It only happened on Saturday so we know very little.’
Simon’s family and friends have made a plea for help to bring him back home to Trallwn, Swansea, South Wales, which they say is going to be a ‘costly process.’
On a fundraising page for Simon, described as ‘supremely popular’, his loved ones are trying to raise £10,000 to help bring him home.

‘We are asking all those who knew and loved Browny to help us bring him back home,’ they said.
‘As a family, we are now trying to bring Simon back home so that we can lay him to rest at his home at Swansea.
‘Thanks to all those who have reached out and sent messages of condolence, and we appreciate any help you can give.’
So far, over £2,000 has been raised out of the £10,000 target.
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office has been contacted for comment.
