Man Utd told to hire Championship boss for FA Cup final after Ten Hag’s ‘sackable offence’

Manchester United are set to face Manchester City in the FA Cup final and have been told to appoint a new boss for the showdown.

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has come under pressure following an underwhelming campaign .

Manchester United have been told to sack Erik ten Hag and temporarily hire their former player and caretaker manager Michael Carrick in time for the FA Cup final later this month. The pressure is ramping up on Ten Hag following an underwhelming season at Old Trafford, with the Red Devils on the end of a 4-0 thumping by Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park at the start of the week.

Ten Hag is coming to the end of his second season at United and led his team to Carabao Cup glory last term as well as back-to-back appearances in the FA Cup final. But following the Red Devils’ humiliation in the capital, former Premier League midfielder Jamie O’Hara has called on the club to make a change.

“Against Crystal Palace on Monday night, Manchester United were terrible,” O’Hara told Grosvenor Casino. “It was a sackable offence. I can’t believe how bad Ten Hag is, how bad it’s got and that Sir Jim Ratcliffe is actually sticking by him.

“They should get someone new in for the final to give themselves a chance. You can’t have Ten Hag in the dugout. He’s leaving at the end of the season. The players have stopped running for him. They’re going into that game in a bad vein of form, in a bad frame of mind. I would change it and try and get a lift by getting in Michael Carrick. Just a couple of games, then he can go back to Middlesbrough.”

United have lost a club record 13 Premier League matches this campaign and are two points adrift of sixth-place Newcastle after already seeing their Champions League qualification hopes go up in flames.

Seventh-place Chelsea currently find themselves ahead of the Red Devils in the table on goal difference and are also vying for a place in Europe. But victory for United in the FA Cup final would hand them the second Europa League qualifying spot.

A whole host of star names have been tipped to take over at Old Trafford should Ten Hag fall on his sword in the coming months. And O’Hara added: “I really liked [Thomas] Tuchel at Chelsea. I thought he created a team that was really hard to beat and nobody wanted to play against them but I don’t know if it works at Manchester United.

“I think they need maybe Graham Potter or Roberto De Zerbi. Someone to build and create a new mentality and philosophy.
