Hon. Jackson Kafuzi, the Deputy Attorney General, officially opened day two of the Annual National Labour Convention Expo on-going at
. He discussed the significance of Labour Day and the importance of justice in enabling productive labour. He highlighted Uganda’s labour laws, including Constitutional Provisions and specific Acts like the Employment Act of 2006 and Labour Unions Act of 2006. Hon. Kafuzi further discussed the role of the Industrial Court in resolving labour disputes, established under the Labour Disputes (Arbitration and Settlement) Act of 2006. He identified the lack of public awareness about the Industrial Court as a-major challenge, especially its limited presence in Kampala. He emphasized the need for government agencies, Members of Parliament, and the Industrial Court to collaborate on raising awareness and educating workers about their rights and access to the court for resolving disputes. This collaboration aims to improve the enforcement of labour laws and enhance workers’ access to justice across Uganda.
