At MTN Uganda, our customers are at the heart of everything we do. It is this customer-centric approach that has propelled us to be recognized as the Fastest Mobile Network in Uganda in 2023 by Ookla, a global authority in internet testing and analysis.
This prestigious accolade, received by our CEO, Sylvia Mulinge, at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, is a testament to our relentless commitment to providing exceptional connectivity experiences to our customers.
Achieving the status of the fastest mobile network in Uganda is not a result of chance but the outcome of strategic investments, technological innovation, and dedicated teamwork. Over the years, we have consistently invested in cutting-edge infrastructure and innovative technologies to enhance network speed, coverage, and reliability.
From 2020 to 2023, we invested US$300 million in expanding our network infrastructure throughout the country, aligning with Uganda’s Vision 2040 commitments and the National Broadband Policy of 2018.
Our investment strategy revolves around three core pillars:
Putting Customers First: We prioritize the needs of our customers above all else. Our relentless pursuit of excellence in mobile network performance is driven by a deep understanding of evolving customer demands and expectations. This customer-centric approach guides every decision we make, ensuring that we deliver the best possible connectivity experiences.
Cutting-edge Infrastructure: We have deployed state-of-the-art network equipment and technologies to ensure optimal performance and reliability. This includes upgrading our 4G network and laying the groundwork for the future 5G network, which will revolutionize connectivity in Uganda.
Innovative Partnerships: We have forged strategic partnerships with device manufacturers and distributors to make smartphones more accessible and affordable to a wider audience. Our device financing schemes have empowered more people to enjoy the benefits of a modern connected life.
Looking ahead, our focus remains on pushing the boundaries of innovation and setting new standards in mobile network performance. We are committed to continuously upgrading our infrastructure to support the growing demand for data and digital services, expanding our 4G and 5G coverage to reach more communities. Currently, our 4G population coverage stands at 85.1%.
As we work on expanding our 4G coverage, we are also investing in emerging technologies such as 5G to unlock new possibilities and enhance the customer experience. We will continue collaborating with government and industry partners to create an enabling environment for digital transformation and connectivity.
Our vision is to deliver the benefits of a modern connected life to all our customers, regardless of who they are or where they are located.
This recognition from Ookla reaffirms our dedication to excellence and inspires us to keep innovating and pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in the telecommunications landscape.
