The 2nd Tanzania-Uganda Oil and Gas Symposium signifies a significant moment in the enduring relationship between Tanzania and Uganda. This event, held at the sidelines of the 9th Annual Oil and Gas Convention, underscores the deep-rooted ties between the two nations, characterized by mutual respect, cooperation, and shared aspirations for a better future.

Ambassador Colonel (Rtd) Fred Mwesigye, Uganda’s High Commissioner to Tanzania, expressed the importance of this symposium in strengthening the strategic partnership between Uganda and Tanzania in the energy sector. With decades of friendship between the two countries, this symposium serves as a platform for further collaboration and cooperation in the vital area of energy.

The symposium brings together key stakeholders from both Uganda and Tanzania to discuss opportunities and challenges in the oil and gas sector. Participants include government officials, industry leaders, and experts who aim to explore avenues for mutual growth and development in the energy industry.

Irene Bateebe, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Energy & Mineral Development in Uganda, highlighted Uganda’s Energy Transition Plan, emphasizing the need for collaboration and innovation. This plan recognizes the importance of balancing energy needs with environmental concerns and aims to integrate oil and gas resources into clean energy initiatives.

Phiona Nyamutoro, Minister of State for Energy and Mineral Development (Minerals), emphasized the positive impact of oil and gas development in Uganda. She reassured partners of Uganda’s preparedness for oil production, affirming that the country is moving in the right direction towards sustainable energy development.

Nyamutoro expressed gratitude to the leadership of H.E. Suluhu Samia and H.E. Kaguta Museveni for their commitment to fostering cooperation between Uganda and Tanzania. Their dedication has created an enabling environment for collaboration in the energy sector, facilitating mutual growth and prosperity.

According to Nyamutoro, “The symposium serves as a testament to the enduring partnership between Uganda and Tanzania, highlighting the shared commitment to advancing the energy sectors of both countries in a sustainable and mutually beneficial manner. Through dialogue, cooperation, and shared goals, Uganda and Tanzania continue to strengthen their relationship and drive progress in the energy industry.”
