Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) has been honored with the title of the best exhibitor among government agencies at the recently concluded CBS PEWOSA trade fair. This recognition highlights the commendable efforts of URA in educating and engaging with the business community, not only within the fair but across the nation.

Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga presented the award to URA and praised the revenue body for its diligent endeavors to educate the business community. Mayiga emphasized the importance of tax awareness and its role in national development. He expressed his belief that increased understanding of tax obligations fosters greater compliance among individuals and businesses.

Earlier this year, John R. Musinguzi, the Commissioner General of URA, met with Katikkiro Mayiga to discuss the significance of voluntary tax compliance. Mayiga pledged to enhance tax education efforts among the subjects and to support initiatives aimed at fostering compliance.

Mayiga emphasized that tax collection serves as a public good necessitating the participation of all citizens. He stressed the responsibility of individuals to fulfill their tax obligations, highlighting the importance of instilling tax awareness from a young age.

The CBS PEWOSA trade fair is an annual eight-day event that brings together entrepreneurs, investors, and businesses of various scales. This year, the event took place at the Muteesa II Stadium in Wankulukuku.

Andrew Kyakonye, a tax education officer at URA, stated that the trade fair focuses on providing support systems for business startups to enhance the value of their products. Through interactions with participants, URA identified a lack of awareness among small taxpayers regarding registration, formalization, and compliance processes.

Kyakonye highlighted the prevalent concern among exhibitors regarding the Electronic Fiscal Receipting and Invoicing Solution (EFRIS) and emphasized the need for URA to raise awareness about its operation and usage among traders and customers.

The exhibition underscored the importance of URA’s ongoing efforts to educate and engage with taxpayers, particularly regarding initiatives such as EFRIS.
