The Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) appeared before the Parliamentary Finance Committee chaired by the visiting MP for bepakwach Hon .Jane Avur Pacuto to explain how they will collect the tax for the benefit of the country
URA Commissioner John Rujoki Musinguzi said they have problems with low staff, low salaries and people who do not want to pay taxes but expect to collect 31 billion in the next fiscal year.
Uganda Revenue Authority led by its chairman John Musinguzi and Finance Ministers appeared before the parliamentary finance committee headed by Amos Katunda to see how they will collect taxes in the next fiscal year.
Members of Parliament have been frustrated by the failure of URA to bring taxes on certain items such as gold and salt but URA President John Musinguzi has responded.
Musinguzi, the URA chairman, pointed out the problem of low paid employees which is the main reason for their employment
Deputy Minister of Finance Henry Musasizi has assured Ugandans that they will create an enabling environment for people to work in order to collect taxes from them.
Musinguzi revealed the tax collection plan and expects a total of 31 buffaloes to be put in the box.
He asked parliament to discuss the funds given to them to increase their skills and efforts in collecting taxes in the country.
He said the landlord’s assets such as gold and others will be taxed and those who try to complain about this will be taken to court.
Musinguzi also spoke about the traders who want to protest against the high taxes imposed by URA, saying most of them want to pay taxes.
