NRM Deputy SG Rose Namayanja Survives Car Crash

This is the second time in less than ten years that Namayanja has been involved in a potentially fatal road accident.

The National Resistance Movement party treasurer, Deputy Secretary General Rt. Hon. Rose Namayanja, has been involved in a road accident.

NRM Secretariat spokesperson, Rogers Mulindwa, said “Namayanja got involved in a road accident this evening in Wakiso.”

He added: “She (Namayanja) has, however, confirmed that all travelling in the car survived without injuries.”

This is the second time in less than ten years that Namayanja has been involved in a potentially fatal road accident.

In 2015, Namayanja was involved in a car crash at Kigogwa in Wakiso, along Kampala-Gulu highway.

At the time, Namayanja was travelling in her official vehicle, registration number RM 27032 from Kampala to Nakaseke. Her car was involved in a head-on collision with a truck.

It is reported that the truck lost control as it dodged a cyclist on the road.

Namayanja sustained serious injuries along with three other occupants of the car. These included her mother Catherine Namirembe, the driver Isma Sebunya and her security guard, Richard Kyazze.

Details remain scanty about Thursday’s road accident.

The vehicle was badly damaged in the road accident

However, pictures from the scene show Namayanja’s vehicle was badly damaged in the accident.

Police officials said they were investigating the cause of the road accident.

Namayanja served as Youth MP for Central Uganda since 2001 before being elected as Woman MP for Nakaseke up to 2015.

In 2017, Namayanja announced her decision to quit elective politics.

Uganda has in recent years witnessed a sharp rise in road accidents.

According to official police statistics, the figure in serious crashes increased to 12,487 in 2023 from 8,860 in 2022.

At least 23,608 road crashes were recorded in 2023 compared to 20,394 cases registered in the East African country in 2022.
