Parliament vets newly nominated Ministers

Hon Lilian Aber, another loyalist of the First Son and PLU vocalist was also named State Minister for Relief, Disaster Preparedness and Refugees in the office of the Prime Minister.

Among the new appointees are prominent figures such as General Wilson Mbasu Mbadi, who previously served as the Chief of Defense Forces and has now been reassigned as the State Minister for Cooperatives (Trade). Dr. Kenneth Omona, formerly the Principal Private Secretary to the President, has been appointed as the Minister of State for Northern Uganda in the Prime Minister’s Office.

The newly appointed Minister of State for Gender, Labour, and Social Development (Youth and Children Affairs)Balaam Ateenyi Barugahara  has vowed to assist in releasing innocent  National Unity Platform party youth members who were imprisoned on political grounds.

The President also transferred his Principal Private Secretary (PPS) Mr Kenneth Omona Olusegun to Minister of State for Northern Uganda Affairs, a position previously held by Ms Grace Freedom Kwiyucwiny, now appointed Senior Presidential Advisor.

Another new face in the cabinet is National Youth MP, Ms Phiona Nyamutoro who ‘secured the bag’ with a ministerial appointment as State Minister for Emergy (in charge of minerals), a position formerly held by Simon Peter Lokeris who has now been named full Cabinet Minister for Karamoja Affairs, replacing Dr Mary Groetti Kitutu.

Barugahara says that after his appointment, a group of NUP youths wrote to him requesting him to intervene in the release of their fellow youths saying the NUP leadership has not helped them.

 

He has also promised to work on early pregnancies amongst teenager and also ensure that justice is attained by the victims.

 

Barugahara has also promised to deal with the increasing unemployment in the youths by encouraging setup of jobs and access to startup funds.

 

He made all these after his vetting at Parliament before the appointments committee chaired by the speaker of Parliament Anita Among.

Meanwhile both the State Minister for Disaster Preparedness Lillian Aber and the state minister of Energy Phiona Nyamutoro have promised to work with others in the ministries and start from where their predecessors had stopped.

“I hereby inform the country that By virtue of the authority given to the President of Uganda by Articles: 108(2), 108A(1), 113(1), and 114(1) of the 1995 Constitution of the Republic of Uganda, that here below I publish a slightly amended list of the cabinet of Uganda,” President Museveni said on Thursday evening as he unveiled the list of changes in the cabinet reshuffle.
