Uganda vs Nigeria
Cape Coast Stadium
Kickoff: 11 PM EAT
Uganda U20 Women’s National Team will on Monday face Nigeria at Cape Coast Stadium in the semifinals of the Women’s Football Tournament at the ongoing African Games.
The game presents a chance for the Queen Cranes to defy odds and progress to the final.
Coach Sheryl Botes and her troops are oozing with confidence ahead of Monday’s game and there is belief in camp to make history.
The coach counts several positives realised so far, indicating that playing against teams like Ghana and Nigeria helps the players to improve.
“This tournament has been of great importance to us because we have got the chance to play against teams like Ghana and Nigeria which are some of the best on the continent,” she stated in the pre match press briefing on Sunday.
“The exposure and experience gained here will not leave us the same. The players have earned a lot facing different teams and they can only get better going forward.” She added.
Botes is confident Uganda will pose a great challenge to Nigeria and advance to the final.
“Nigeria is a possesion based team, they are not direct as Ghana. Therefore, we have drafted a strategy on how to approach this game and I have the trust in my players to execute it to perfection.” She said.
Goalkeeper Sharon Kaidu stated that the ultimate target for Uganda is to win gold and thus they must overcome any team they face.
“We came here with one target and that is to win the Championship. We are confident as players going into the game against Nigeria and hopefully, we wil get good results.” The shot-stopper indicated.
Uganda will miss the services of Docus Lwalisa and Krusum Namutebi who are both suspended after accumulating two yellow cards each in the group games.
However, there is a timely return for defender Shakirah Nankwanga who missed the game against Ghana on Friday through suspension.
