Manchester United’s bid to secure a place in next season’s Champions League took a major dent after they suffered a 2-1 defeat against Fulham on Saturday.
Erik ten Hag’s side were second best throughout the first half at Old Trafford, though Fulham didn’t take the lead until just before the hour mark as Calvin Bassey fired home. The Whites had chances to put the game beyond reach but were temporarily punished for being wasteful when Harry Maguire equalised late on.
However, despite having opportunities of their own, United were caught out as Alex Iwobi won it for Fulham in the 97th minute. It was a bitterly disappointing result for the Red Devils, who were hoping to secure their fourth successive Premier League win in their hopes of a top-four place.
United remain in sixth, but are three off Tottenham in fifth and eight behind fourth-place Aston Villa, who beat Nottingham Forest 4-2 on Saturday. Here is the latest news from the Red Devils.
