This morning, the Opposition Caucus convened to chart a way forward following yesterday’s walkout from #PlenaryUg. We reiterated our demand that the regime offers an explanation in regard to the continued violation of the rights of various Opposition supporters and leaders as well as the seige on

headquarters. We also demand that the government apologises to the Opposition parties and the respective leaders for the brutality and other violations. We also demand that the perpetrators be brought to book plus a commitment from the government that such violations will not be repeated.

Opposition demands apology and commitment from government

Members of the Opposition Caucus led by Mathias Mpuuga brief the media on their next action after they stormed out of parliament yesterday in protest against the disruption of the opposition activities. They demand a statement of apology from the government or they will not attend today’s sitting. They also want a commitment that the same shall not be repeated. Failure by the government to heed the demand shall inform their next course of action-NTV

Opposition MPs have decided to boycott all sessions of parliament until the government issues an apology for what they call violence against the opposition through the security agencies.

The Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, Mathias Mpuuga Nsamba, told the press that the issue of violations of the rights of the opposition should not be ignored, that some in government agencies are betraying them.

On October 5, 2023, security forces arrested the NUP leader upon his arrival at Ntebbe airport, from a RwandaAir flight he had arrived in from South Africa, and escorted him to his home in Magere.

Meanwhile, on 09 October,2023 security forces surrounded the NUP headquarters in Kamwokya and prevented a prayer service organized by the party, to pray for their people who have been kidnapped, deceased and those in jail, and then other supporters were arrested.

These are the reasons why MPs have boycotted parliamentary sessions until the government reports on the actions, and apologizes to the people.
