Kampala,Uganda:

Elders Lodge Complaint with Archbishop Kaziimba Regarding Alleged Fraudulent Nomination Process for Namirembe Bishop Successor

Elders within the Anglican Diocese have submitted a formal petition to Archbishop Kaziimba Mugalu, raising concerns about the purportedly fraudulent nomination process involving Rev. Moses Banja and Rev. Abraham Muyinda as candidates for the retiring Bishop Kityo Luwalira’s position.

The elders have accused Kampala lawyer Frederick Mpanga of AF Mpanga Advocates, who serves as the diocese’s chancellor, of orchestrating fraudulent activities. Last Saturday, Mpanga convened a nomination meeting at Kings College Budo to assess potential candidates for the Namirembe Bishop position. However, during the meeting, Mpanga deviated from the expected process and presented two names, Moses Mpanga and Abraham Muyinda, for the committee’s endorsement.

Out of the 15 committee members present at the meeting, only three supported Mpanga’s proposal to endorse the candidates without proper vetting and election, namely Mpanga himself, former Bukedde editor Geoffrey Kulubya, and Robinah Kizito, the Headmistress of Gayaza High School. The remaining 10 committee members refused to endorse Mpanga’s alleged fraudulent nomination of Banja and Muyinda.

In response to the escalating situation, Mpanga adjourned the meeting to reconvene on Monday, October 2nd. However, on Monday, Mpanga reportedly failed to convene the meeting and instead sent the names of Banja and Muyinda directly to Archbishop Kaziimba.
