In a Press Conference held at Kingdom Hotel in Kampala on Tuesday morning, Prime Minister Emeritus Dr.Ruhakana Rugunda  led a number of Old Boys and girl during a Press Conference  who gave their views about their mighty School and how they will Celebrate the 100 years in existence.

Those in attendance were Prof. Mondo Kagonyera, Abraham Akampurira, the Head Teacher of Kigezi High School,Trade Minister David Bahati, the Chairman of the organizing committee of the  School, and others.

Notable alumni of Kigezi High School include the late Emmanuel Tumusiime Mutebile, the former late Governor of the Bank of Uganda, Former Prime Minister Ruhakana Rugunda, Prof. Augustus Nuwagaba, former presidential candidates Dr. Kiiza Besigye, Prime Minister Emeritus Amama Mbabazi, Justice George Kanyeihamba and former Presidential Candidate Abed Bwanika, among others. Their achievements stand as a testament to the school’s commitment to producing exceptional leaders.

Hon Dr. Rugunda, the Patron of the School in his remarks said:

This weekend, all roads will be leading to Kigezi High School for the Celebrations of 100 years in existance. This School has made enormous contributions to  the development of this Country in many different ways be it in governance, business, in academia and other professions, you will find old girls or old boys of Kigezi High School. Its an old School in Kigezi region.

I therefore want to take this opportunity to thank the founders of this School were Church organizations. They are the ones that did a lot of original work in terms of education and healthcare. So, we thank them for having considered it appropriate to start this School.

We also want to thank our own people who have been supportive and cooperative and provided essential environment, land and other things to enable the School to Start.

The school has had as many other Schools’ challenges, up and down but I must say its now moving well. The numbers of Students are increasing in quantum.

And we expect more and more to come as the   School continues to perform well.

We have had a number of Projects over the last few years to mark the Centenary period and some of these have essentially included facilities in the School and these have been carried out by old Students boys and girls and families of those that have gone through this School.

Some of these projects have included renovation of dormitories, working on water Projects and the like.

However, as we get into a new Century, we want to make sure Kigezi High School is clearly on top as a School and therefore this School will continue to shine and even shine better than it has done before.

I want to thank the government of Uganda  and our President  for having strongly   supported the education portfolio.

As you very well know, the Universal Primary Education and Universal Secondary Education   were introduced by this government and have done a great deal of work to make Education available both in Urban and rural areas and almost to every child in Uganda.

This is a great achievement that this government of Uganda will always be remembered for and the President Of Uganda, Yoweri Museveni will always be given credit for this revolution and transformation of the education Sector.

As we conclude the arrangements, we have one or two important projects we are embarking on and this is focusing on the legacy Project. What are we going to be remembering as we start this new Century?

We are putting up a multipurpose building Complex that will respond to the increasing numbers of Students and will also respond to the new aspects in education.

So, within this Complex, Students will be able to have somewhere to gather, they will be able to have Classroom facilities, Tutorial, Computer and other new requirements to ensure that  our Students are getting very good Education.

As I conclude my remarks, I would like to thank the organizing Committee led by Alfred.

They have done the ground work both in Kampala especially and also in Kabaale.

This is a School with two sections:

1-Kigezi High School Primary 2- Kigezi High School Secondary. So, we have old Students from both Schools.

30th September well be a day of thanks giving.

As old Students, Students and well-wishers shall assemble to thank God for the years that we have existed and obviously appreciating Government for its contributions towards the school.100 years deserve to be celebrated. We shall thank the founders and the current administration for developing the school. Kigezi high School means a lot to many of us who went through it. Many of us see it as an incubator of men and Women. For Service. We have got a number a of people who have gone through Kigezi High School that are now serving humanity. For example, we have people who are in Nassa in the United States controlling the Satellites in the Skies. We have Bishops, Politicians, Scientists and this in my opinion means this School is one of the greatest in the Country. And therefore,100 years is not just counting the numbers of years but counting the achievements that were made by the school the old Student have made to the school.

One of the other things we have engaged in is to support young students of the School.

A School can be as great as its old Students. And we continue to reflect this wherever we serve. Our Motto is “I serve”

We are going back to appreciate God,Old Students who have contributed to the growth of the School.

Personally, I was at Kigezi High School for six years and some of the things nurtured in me in terms of discipline, Scouting contributed to who iam today.

Kigezi High School is one of the oldest Schools in the Country.

Its in the Category of St Mary’s, Nyakasura, Mwiri and others.

And as you know, Government has a plan of renovating such Schools. So, we’re doing this knowing that Government will do its part. They will be renovated to the level where they were or even better.

So, were engaging in a number of activities that are not only helping Kigezi High School but helping humanity.

Prof Mondo Kagonyera:

I was at Kigezi High School between 1953 and1956.

Kigezi High School at one time was providing the Majority of the Students going to the best Schools like Mwiri Secondary Schools then.

We know the School has slightly gone lower on the radar but we are doing every thing possible for the school to revive glory on the roadmap.

And as you may know, Kigezi High School made its name largely as a Junior Secondary School by Providing its Students to Secondary Schools all over the Country from which they became great leaders like Hon. Dr.Ruhakana Rugunda.

The school was based on Christian Values. In other words, Discipline of the boys was as important as if not as important as Academic Excellency.

You can go to all through the Academic Excellency, but if you are not disciplined, you are not valuable to your Society.

As Members of the Press, I would like you promote the  Value of knowledge.

Charity Tumwine:

I was in Kigezi High School between 1989-91 in my A’level;

Most people think Kigezi High School is a Single School because in the first years,it had boys but later, girls were also integrated  into the education System of the School  in  the institution  and iam one of the beneficiaries.

During our time, we had reconciliation with Kigezi CollegeButobere, you know we usued to fight with them all the time. So, under the leadership of our headmaster Mr.Turyagyenda, we managed to have reconciliation with our friendly School Kigezi College and every year, we used to have a bull roasting activity to bring the relationship back. We started bonding together.Iam here to encourage all girls who would like to join Kigezi high that please go ahead.

I cannot neglect the memories at  Kigezi High Shool  because while there,I was previllaged to be part of the debating Club.Having prepared me,I managed  to stand as woman aspirant for Rukiga.I was part of the Scripture Union and  I was given an opportunity dormitory.

Another thing I will not forget, I have been given an opportunity to serve on the board  for a number of years .

We have improved on the library,ICT Section and dormitories.

Alfred Kabuchu, Chairman, organizing Committee:

Over the years like 7 plus year, that we hve been doing varius activities as old Students of Kigezi High School to rejuvenate it and bring it to the level  beyond where it was.

Actually, our Vision is that the School should be one of the top ten day Schools affordable quality education and learning in Uganda and beyond.

We believe, this is achievable have seen the big body of the alumni all over the world.

Personally, I was at Kigezi High from P.1 to Senior four.If it were not for education, many of us would be  in the Villages tiling land.
