Police in Wakiso District are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the disappearance and subsequent discovery of the body of a school director.
The director, identified as Godwin Kansiime, was reported missing and was later found dead in a bush in Kakiri Division.
According to the information provided by the police, it is believed that Kansiime was killed at Nansana Inn before his body was transported to Kakiri, which is approximately 17 kilometers away from the initial crime scene, and left in a remote area.
Kansiime, who was 47 years old, served as the director of Victoria Secondary School in Nansana. The police spokesperson, Mr. Luke Owoyesigyire, stated that Kansiime was last seen alive at Hollas Café and Lounge in Nansana on September 2, 2023, at 6:15 am.
Surveillance footage from a private CCTV camera system showed him leaving the café in the company of an unidentified woman.
Subsequently, Kansiime and the unidentified woman reportedly went to Nansana Inn, where they booked a room. It is believed that he was killed at this guest house, although the motive behind the murder is still under investigation.
The police revealed that the management of the hotel was allegedly involved in transporting Kansiime’s body and dumping it in Nansomba village, Gobero, in Kakiri Division.
The discovery of Kansiime’s body was made on September 3, 2023, after the village’s defense secretary, Mr. Baker Mawanda, reported the presence of an unidentified body in a bush.
Police suspect that Kansiime’s death may be connected to a dispute he had with another director of the school. This other director had reportedly been compelled to step aside following a resolution reached by the police earlier in the year.
Currently, six suspects are in custody at Nansana Police Station, including the manager of the inn, two waitresses, and two employees of Hollas Café, where Kansiime was last seen alive.
Kansiime’s brother, Mr. Innocent Bashongoka, has expressed concerns about the case and has requested further police investigations.
He has also mentioned that the family has provided a DNA sample from their mother for testing, which is to be conducted before the body is released to the family for burial.
Bashongoka has raised questions about the lack of cooperation from the inn, including their alleged refusal to provide access to CCTV footage, claiming that their cameras were not operational.
He has also expressed disbelief that a murder could have occurred during the day at the guest house without anyone noticing, especially given the claim that the rooms were fully booked at the time.
