The Sevens team enter this 2023 edition to defend their crown after they clinched the 2022 campaign in Lugogo- Kampala.
The tournament is slated to start on Saturday 16th September and climax on 17 September 2023.
At the flag-off ceremony, the NCS representative at the occasion, the Assistant General Secretary Technical Mr David Katende thanked the Uganda Rugby Union and labeled it as a threat;
“I want thank and congratulate Uganda Rugby Union for the recent victories, as government we are proud of the union and rugby Cranes, arising out of these, the union is not struggling so much because the government got their back.”
“These National colors are a threat most of them people as they remember the year 2002 when the team was on top of Africa” he added
As you go to represent us, go and do what you know to do best, we wish you well – please represent us well” he concluded
President of the Uganda Olympic Committee, Dr Donald Rukare also added saying;
“I want to thank NCS for the support, the Rugby Cranes for reaching this far, we have our high hopes in you, please go fly our flag high yes you will face some challenges but don’t be intimidated”
