KASSANDA, (UG): At least four people died on the spot and three others were seriously injured in a fatal accident after the vehicle in which they were traveling lost control and overturned in the wee hours of Sunday morning in Kassanda District, central Uganda.
The road crash occurred at around 03:00 AM, at Myanzi Trading Centre in Kassanda District along the Mubende-Mityana highway.
According to Wamala Regional Police Spokesperson, Ms Kawala Racheal, preliminary investigations indicate that the killer vehicle, a black Fuso Fighter, Reg No UAY 415C, loaded with matooke and heading towards Kampala from Mubende, experienced a brake failure.
“It is alleged that the vehicle lost control and overturned, resulting in the instantaneous death of four occupants and injuring three. At present, the identities of the deceased remain to be confirmed,” ASP Kawala said in a Sunday morning police statement.
She identified the injured victims as below:
- Nambusi Grace, 40 years old, a resident of Namasuba – Kikajo, Wakiso District.
- Bright Patrick, 34 years old, a business person residing in Kibiri-Busabaala, Wakiso District.
- Nadunga Lydia, 42 years old, a businesswoman residing in Kalerwe.
Ms Kawala says the injured individuals have been taken to Mityana Hospital for necessary medical care and police have thoroughly documented and examined the scene of the incident.
Additionally, she bodies of the deceased have been transported to Kassanda Health Center IV mortuary, awaiting postmortem examinations.
The motor vehicle involved has been towed to Myanzi Police Station pending an Inspection of Vehicles (IOV) assessment.
Kawala decried that such tragic accidents underscore the vital importance of responsible driving and urged the drivers to ensure the vehicles they operate are in optimal mechanical condition.
