KAMPALA, UGANDA: The Board of Directors of Uganda Printing and Publishing Corporation (UPPC) has appointed Prof Sudi Nangoli as the corporation’s new Managing Director.
Prof Nangoli takes over from Mr Kenneth Oluka who held the position in acting capacity for nearly two years following the acrimonious exit of former MD Prof Tom Wasswa.
While handing over the office on Monday, Mr Oluka thanked the appointing authority for having given him the opportunity to lead the institution for one year and seven months but decried the issue of old machinery which UPPC has grappled with for so many years.
”In order to be competitive we need to acquire a five-colour machine because that’s where the world of printing is but for us, we are still lagging behind. So we need to get modern machinery if are to compete favourably in this market of printing and publishing,” he said.
Mr Joachim Buwembo, the board chairman of UPPC said Prof Nangoli was appointed on a three-year contract which is renewable. ”We advertised this position in the media and we had over 100 competitors, vetting was done and Prof Nangoli emerged the best. We wish him the best,” he said.
Speaking of his appointment, Prof Nangoli thanked God for the opportunity rendered to him and promised to do his best to revitalize the UPPC.
“I thank the board for entrusting me with this role and I assure you that I will do my best and use my expertise in propelling the corporation to deliver on its mandate. I pray that God makes me perform better,” Nangoli said, adding; “I will ride for the ability and competence and shall go the extra mile to reach where UPPC is supposed to be and will exploit all the gaps uncovered since publishing is the future.”
As an Associate Professor, Nangoli joins UPPC from Makerere University Business School (MUBS), where he has been a member of senior management since 2014 and has been the Ag. Dean at the Faculty of Business Administration.
He has previously been Dean and Programme Controller in charge of the Faculty of Management Sciences at Busitema University and sits on the Board of its Fund Company.
Prof. Nangoli has undertaken international consulting assignments in reputable organisations like the Institute of Certified public accountants in Uganda, the Somali Disaster Resilience Institute, and Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) among others.
He holds a PhD in Business Management, a Master’s degree in Business Administration majoring in project management. He is also a member of ACCA -UK, and CPA-U.
As a scholar, Prof. Nangoli has contributed to the printing and publishing industry through reviews, edits, and publishing of peer-reviewed quality articles in the international and local fora.
He brings a wealth of experience in management and research knowledge in improving revenue performance, enhancing business survival and growth, project management, and building social networks among others.
Nangoli’s expertise will be instrumental in propelling the UPPC to deliver on its mandate.
