The Workers MP, Margret Rwabushaija has revealed that the newly assented Market Act 2023 which she introduced as a private member’s bill is going to help the vendors join the markets which have been constructed by government in the recent past which people have abandoned.
The Market Act 2023 repealed the 1942 Market Act which had stayed since the colonial era and couldn’t solve the challenges of the current market situation.
The new Market Act 2023, provides that each trader should own a single stall, removed the middlemen who used to hike the stall prices which scared many people to join the markets, establishing home care centres, among other.
Speaking to journalist At parliament Rwabushaija said that the new Market Act 2023 will provide room for the people who are vending on the streets to also join the markets that have been constructed by the government.
She argued with the minister for local government to speed up the formulation of the regulations that will aid the implementation of the Market Act 2023.
