REV. MSGR. LAWRENCE MUKASA HAS BEEN APPOINTED AS THE NEW BISHOP OF THE KASANA-LUWEERO DIOCESE.
Pope Francis IV has appointed Rev. Msgr. Lawrence Mukasa as the Bishop of the Kasana-Luweero Diocese.
Until the time of his appointment, Msgr Mukasa has been serving as the Vicar General of Kiyinda-Mityana Diocese.
The position has been unoccupied since December 2021 following the appointment of Paul Ssemogerere as the Metropolitan Archbishop of Kampala.
Profile Background
Msgr. Lawrence Mukasa was born on 14 March 1957 in Nabwiri, diocese of Kiyinda-Mityana.
After attending the minor seminary of Kisubi, he studied philosophy at Saint Thomas Aquinas National Major Seminary in Katigondo, in the diocese of Masaka, and theology at Saint Mary’s National Major Seminary in Ggaba, in the archdiocese of Kampala.
He was ordained a priest on 24 June 1984, and incardinated in the diocese of Kiyinda-Mityana.
After ordination, he first served as vicar of the Bukalagi parish (1984), vicar of the Naluggi parish (1985-1986), and professor and formator at Saint Thomas Aquinas National Major Seminary in Katigondo (1986-1990).
After studying Church history at the Pontifical Gregorian University, Rome (1990-1992), he went on to serve as spiritual director and professor at Saint Thomas Aquinas National Major Seminary in Katigondo (1992-1997) and at Saint Mbaaga’s Major Seminary in the archdiocese of Kampala (2001-2005); parish priest of the Bukalagi parish (1997-2001);.
Cince 2005, he has been vicar general of the diocese of Kiyinda-Mityana and, since 2018, vicar for the clergy under the same diocese.
