Sadio Mane allegedly attacked teammate Leroy Sane after Bayern Munich’s 3-0 loss to Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday night.
According to reports, the incident happened at full-time in Bayern Munich’s dressing room. The row was ‘short’ but ‘loud’ and it came to an end after Mane hit Sane. By the time their teammates succee876ded in calming them down, Leroy Sane had already suffered a cut lip.
The two players started clashing on the pitch when their team was already 3-0 down. Sadio Mane, who has recently been struggling to impress, was brought on in the 69th minute. Moments later, he was seen arguing with Sane who was trying to impress against his former team Manchester City.
According to The Mirror, Sadio Mane complained about how Sane spoke to him. It is yet to be known what Leroy told Mane that made the latter so annoyed to an extent that the altercation continued in the dressing room.
After landing back in Munich, Sadio Mane was picked up privately from the airport while Leroy Sane took the team bus. Bayern Munich are yet to give a statement on the incident which has caught the attention of football fans worldwide.
The spat is not a good look for Sadio Mane who is currently out of form. The Senegal international has so far scored just six Bundesliga goals, with a leg injury hampering his progress. It would’ve been unthinkable that Mane, who finished as runner-up in last year’s Ballon d’Or would be dropped against Manchester City on Tuesday.
The altercation is also not a good sign for Leroy Sane who has struggled to impress since his arrival from Manchester City in 2020.
The incident comes at a time when Bayern Munich are facing a difficult time. The Bavarians are out of the DFB-Pokal after losing to Freiburg and are on the verge of exiting the UEFA Champions League after their 3-0 loss to Manchester City on the first leg.
However, Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel feels that his team is not yet out of the competition. The German, who replaced Julian Nagelsmann, felt his side were unlucky to lose the game in England.
“This does not feel like a 3-0 but it is a 3-0 and it is a huge, huge task now to turn this around. We are realistic but we will not give up. It will not be over until we are in the shower. The reaction was great during the first half. In the second half, it was even better. In the period where the goal could give us a huge boost of confidence, the opposite happened.” Sky Sports quotes Thomas Tuchel.
