The Deputy Speaker of Parliament Thomas Tayebwa has called for tougher action against corrupt and incompetent accounting officers rather than either being dropped or recycled.
This was in relation to the current list of accounting officers that was released by the PSST Ministry of Finance accused of failing to manage and account for public funds.
Tayebwa while communicating to the house this afternoon said that it’s unethical to maintain or transfer an accounting officer who is allegedly accused of mismanaging public funds.
It’s from this that the deputy speaker directed the Ministries of Finance, Local Government, and Public Service to present a report in a week’s time on the status of accounting officers suspended in the past three years to ascertain the cause of their suspension.
