Philip Billing has touted international teammate Rasmus Hojlund to succeed at Manchester United amid interest from the club, admitting he “is a United player”.

Hojlund has shown promise over the past few seasons. The young Dane scored six goals and provided an assist in 13 games for Sturm Graz in the 2021/22 campaign.

He also scored three goals and chipped in with another assist in three games in other competitions. At the start of this campaign for the Austrian side, Hojlund scored three goals and assisted twice in five games.

That was enough for Serie A side Atalanta to pull the trigger on a £15million transfer.

Doing it in a top-five European league is a whole different story to banging in goals in Austria.

However, Hojluld has shown he’s at a level where he can score no matter who the opposition is. In 23 Serie A games this season, the 20-year-old has scored seven goals and assisted once.

He’s the second-top goalscorer at Atalanta, and his performances have helped them to sixth place.

The latest sign he’s got what it takes to make it big was a hat-trick on just his third appearance for Denmark. On his first start for his country, he scored all three goals in a 3-1 win over Finland.

Hojlund is Man Utd quality, thinks Billing

His rapid rise has meant Hojlund has caught the attention of some big clubs. Manchester United are linked and reportedly have ‘concrete interest’ in the forward.

The striker has also detailed how much it would mean to play for the Red Devils.

A reference from an international teammate might go a long way, too. Indeed, Bournemouth’s Billing has admitted he feels Hojlund would make a top player for the Red Devils.

“He is a huge talent who can go really far if he continues to keep his feet on the ground,” he said, quoted by Tribal Football.

“Manchester United… The way he plays, I can see him there from the summer.

“They also apparently lack a striker. He has enormous potential and I feel he is a United player.”

Billing is an experienced Premier League player, who’s scored six goals this season, so clearly knows his way around the league. As such, he should know when somebody would be able to succeed.

Hojlund a different kind of Man Utd star

It would be refreshing to see United sign Hojlund and him have success. The Red Devils have generally been a side who have recruited already big-name players, or people from big clubs, especially to lead the line.

The likes of Radamel Falcao, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Robin van Persie and Cristiano Ronaldo – in his second spell – were big names before joining the club.

Hojlund, though, has not got much experience in a top-five league. While it could be a risk in that he might fail, should he continue his good form, it would be a fantastic piece of business from United.

They’d surely not have to pay top dollar, and given Hojlund is 20, he could be a star for years to come.
