Manchester City have ended Arsenal’s long run at the top of the Premier League after a 3-1 victory at the Emirates Stadium.

The Citizens took an early at the Emirates Stadium after Kevin De Bruyne made the most of a mis-placed backpass by Arsenal full-back Takehiro Tomiyasu before Buakyo Saka responded from the penalty area.

Thomas Partey missed Arsenal’s top of the table Premier League clash against Manchester City with a muscular problem.

Tomiyasu also returned to the starting line-up in place of Ben White, who dropped to the bench.

Erling Haaland was fit enough to start for the visitors, having been forced off at half-time in Sunday’s win over Aston Villa.

City took the lead after a defensive howler from the recalled Tomiyasu.

William Saliba failed to deal with a long ball forward and Tomiyasu then attempted to play a pass back to his goalkeeper but Kevin De Bruyne was on hand to guide home a perfect finish past a helpless Aaron Ramsdale.

Arsenal were awarded a penalty five minutes before the break as Ederson collided with Eddie Nketiah after the striker had got an effort away.

Saka made no mistake from the spot, sending Ederson the wrong way to level.

The contest was certainly living up to the pre-match hype as the sides went in at the break locked at 1-1.

The visitors thought they had been awarded a penalty of their own early in the second half as Gabriel bundled Haaland to the ground.

But the penalty was overturned after a VAR check, with Haaland offside in the build-up to the incident.

The champions retook the lead with 18 minutes left, Gabriel guilty of losing possession as City broke forward and Grealish tucking home Haaland’s cross to make it 2-1.

City went 3-1 up as Haaland got his goal, tucking home a De Bruyne cross to send the away fans into raptures.
City saw out the remainder of the game to secure a 3-1 victory that took them top of the Premier League table above Arsenal on goal

difference.
