Addressing the media in Mombasa, Koome said the changes were normal procedure to ensure the free flow of command in the security sector. The IG disclosed that he had recalled an officer on the rank of Assistant Inspector General that was attached to Uhuru.

“It is true the officer who was there was Assistant Inspector. I have recalled that officer to give him responsibilities commensurate with his rank. Whatever has been done is in good faith and the Inspector General is available to any senior leader who has any issue,” Koome said on Friday, February, 3. According to Koome, it is normal for the command of the security detail of a retired president to change once they leave office in order to allow efficient use of officers and reaffirm the command structure.
