Manchester United are on the verge of completing the loan signing of Marcel Sabitzer as the Bayern Munich star is currently ‘flying’ to Old Trafford, Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge has told GiveMeSport.
The Red Devils have already completed the acquisitions of Jack Butland and Wout Weghorst this month, but boss Erik ten Hag has set his sights on striking another deal hours before the transfer deadline
Man United transfer news – Marcel Sabitzer
According to Sky Sports, Manchester United are pushing to sign Sabitzer on loan from Bayern Munich ahead of tonight’s 11pm cut-off.
The report suggests Chelsea are also keen on the central midfielder, but the Red Devils have spotted an opportunity to pounce after initially mulling over whether to strike a deal last summer.
Manchester United have already agreed personal terms with Sabitzer and he is currently on his way to England.
It is understood that discussions over a move for the Austria international are at an advanced stage with Bayern Munich and the final details are being finalised.
CBS reporter Ben Jacobs has told GiveMeSport that Sabitzer ‘wants the move’ to Old Trafford and it is unlikely that Chelsea will hijack the transfer despite holding an interest.
What has Michael Bridge said about Sabitzer?
Bridge believes Manchester United have upped the ante in their pursuit of Sabitzer after Christian Eriksen suffered an injury during the FA Cup fourth round win over Reading.
The Sky Sports reporter understands the former RB Leipzig talisman is currently on a flight ahead of potentially linking up with ten Hag’s charges.
Bridge told GiveMeSport: “Manchester United were expected to be quiet today, but then quiet no more.
“They are signing Marcel Sabitzer from Bayern Munich. We wonder if the injury news to Christian Eriksen has propelled Manchester United to go ahead and sign this player.
“He is someone they have admired for some time and someone they looked at in the summer, but it looks like they’re going to sign him now on loan with a view to a permanent deal. He’s flying to Manchester now from Germany.”

Would Sabitzer be a good signing for Man United?
According to Sofascore, Sabitzer has averaged 1.8 tackles while also racking up two goal contributions since the Bundesliga campaign got underway.
Those figures emphasise that the £165,000-per-week man would be capable of providing Manchester United’s backline with extra protection while also having an impact in the final third of the pitch.
Sabitzer has made 24 appearances this season, although he has been restricted to just seven domestic starts.
It is at Leipzig where the 28-year-old thrived, having racked up 52 goals and a further 42 assists in 229 outings.
Sabitzer has been handed a 6.66 average match rating by WhoScored during the early stages of Austria’s Nations League campaign and he would be a shrewd loan signing.
