Prior to his appointment as ambassador, Dr. Ggaliwango served as the Director of Finance at the National Resistance Movement-NRM party secretariat. He also served as Mbale Resident District Commissioner and Mbale Industrial Division LCIII chairperson.
Condolences began pouring in with Ugandans on Twitter eulogising him as a “committed officer”, who gave his best at work to ensure the rights and welfare of Ugandans are upheld.
Dr. Ggaliwango is also the proprietor of Mbale Progressive Secondary School, the pioneer private secondary school in Mbale city. He is also the husband of Mbale city Woman Member of Parliament, Connie Nakayenze Ggaliwango
Ugandan High Commissioner to Kenya, Dr Hassan Wasswa Galiwango, who passed away this morning in Nairobi Hospital.
On Monday morning, the Ugandan Ambassador to Kenya and Seychelles Dr Hassan Galiwango passed on in Nairobi Hospital, where he was under treatment.
Dr Galiwango’s death was announced by Uganda’s Minister for East African Community Affairs and first deputy Prime Minister, Rebecca Kadaga.
“It is with great sadness that I announce the death of H.E Dr Galiwango, High Commissioner of Uganda to Kenya, which occurred this morning,” she said.
The cause of death is yet to be communicated by the government.
Dr Galiwango has been the High Commissioner to Kenya and Seychelles since June 2021. He has also been Uganda’s permanent representative to the United Nations Environment Program and UN-HABITAT.
Dr Galiwango was appointed High Commissioner in October 2020 to replace Phibby Otaala, who had left office to contest for a political seat back home. However, Ms Otaala protested his appointment and declined to hand over the post, arguing that she had not been recalled.
Dr Galiwango later presented his credentials to President Uhuru on March 3, 2021.
Before becoming a High Commissioner, Galiwango was a former Director of Finance and Administration at the National Resistance Movement secretariat.
Dr Galiwango was the husband to Mbale City Woman Member of Parliament, Ms Connie Nakayeze Galiwango.
Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Alfred Mutua condoled with the family of Galiwango.
