Manchester United are reportedly working on a transfer deal for Monaco defender Axel Disasi.
Since joining Monaco from Stade Reims back in 2020, the 24-year-old has gone on to make 106 appearances for the club across all competitions, chipping in with nine goals and four assists.
With Monaco recently saying goodbye to one of the defenders in the shape of Benoit Badiashile, who has now joined Chelsea, the French club now face the possibility of seeing another one of their centre-backs depart this month.
According to a recent report from Tuttomercatoweb, the Red Devils are making moves to secure a transfer deal for the centre-back.
The report also adds that Monaco are excited by the prospect of cashing in on the Frenchman, after recently picking up £35m for Badiashile.
This suggests that a deal for Disasi could be there for United to make this month if the money is right.
It also states that ‘he is already rubbing his hands’ and that Man United are ‘moving on him’.
Having appeared in all of Monaco’s games this season and started all but one of them, this highlights just how important and prominent Disasi has been for the team.
Do United need to sign a centre-back this month?
To highlight his defensive capabilities, the centre-back has made more clearances (53) and blocks (24) than any other player at Monaco in Ligue 1 this season, as well as having the joint-second highest combined total of tackles and interceptions (54).
Described as a player that has “great qualities” by Jean-Luc Vasseur, Disasi reportedly had a price tag of €50m (£44m) put on him during the previous summer transfer window, which could be the ballpark figure it may cost United to sign him this month.
Even though Erik ten Hag currently has six centre-backs in his squad in addition to the fact that United have only conceded one goal in their four previous Premier League games, securing a deal for the Monaco star could be a smart long-term investment for the club to make.
