A local official from South Sudan’s eastern Jonglei state has reported five deaths from recent clashes that erupted between youths from the Nuer community and another ethnic group in the area.
Armed Nuer youngsters attacked the Murle community in Gumuruk and Likuangole counties, and although the government claims to be helping communities the fighting remains ongoing.
The United Nations peacekeeping mission warned of a potential escalation last week and increased patrols, but were unable to contain the flashpoint.
