Bank of Uganda lauds MTN MoMo & ClinicPesa for Boosting Healthcare Financial Services

  • MTN Mobile Money (MoMo) Limited Uganda has partnered with ClinicPesa, a healthcare financing solution to extend healthcare financial services to its customers.

 

  • MTN MoMo Customers can now save towards their healthcare financial goals or borrow against their savings to finance their healthcare needs at ClinicPesa partner facilities.

Wednesday 30th November 2022 – Kampala, Uganda: In a bid to further drive financial inclusion, MTN Mobile Money Limited Uganda has partnered with ClinicPesa to extend healthcare financial services to more Ugandans conveniently through the robust, accessible, and widely used MTN MoMo platform. The service was launched onto the MTN MoMo platform yesterday at the MTN Headquarters in Kampala.

ClinicPesa is a healthcare financing solution that empowers individuals to save, borrow and pay for healthcare or to purchase drugs/medicine in their time of need at any partnering healthcare facilities.

 

ClinicPesa has a number of services for instance the maternal health service called ClinicPesa MaMa’s. ClinicPesa MaMa’s is a behaviorally driven mobile money maternal health savings account platform that empowers expectant women and couples to access timely savings towards maternity care, purchase of birth preparedness kits (MaMa Kits), upkeep, as well as transportation to the healthcare center, hence empowering them to afford safe child delivery.

 

Following the partnership between MTN MoMo and ClinicPesa, individuals will be able to use the MTN MoMo platform to set up and manage their Healthcare accounts with ease using their mobile phones.

Speaking at the launch of the partnership on behalf of the Deputy Governor Bank of Uganda, Richard Byarugaba, the BoU head of finance lauded MTN MoMo and ClinicPesa partnership.

“Only 15% save in financial institutions while 17% save on their mobile phones. This product shall therefore not only promote healthcare but also promote savings among more people in Uganda,” Byarugaba said.

 

Financial Sector Deepening’s Director of Programs, Joseph Lutwama lauded ClinicPesa for innovating products that eliminate financial bottlenecks for low-income earners.

“We have walked with ClincPesa on this journey for 4 years and are happy to see that they are partnering with MTN MoMo to take this service to many more people who need it. We shall continue supporting innovators like ClinicPesa to provide a better life to the people in the communities in which we live,” Lutwama said.

ClinicPesa Chief Executive Officer, Eng. Chrispinus Onyancha thanked MTN MoMo for accepting to work with ClinicPesa.

“I also thank them for the new innovations that MTN has put in place to make their customers’ lives simpler. I urge the MTN Customers to set up their ClinicPesa accounts and start saving for their healthcare,” Onyancha said.

Sylvia Mulinge, the MTN Chief Executive Officer of MTN Uganda said that the partnership between MTN MoMo Ltd and ClinicPesa underpins MTN’s commitment to leading digital solutions for Africa’s progress by providing the benefits of a modern connected life to all its customers.

With over 16 million customers on the MTN network, the partnership between MTN MoMo and ClinicPesa will extend healthcare financial services to more people who have not been able to access such services.
