NRM youth direct Museveni to stand again in 2026 to complete unfinished business
National Resistance Movement (NRM) youths have instructed President Yoweri Museveni (jajja) to stand again in 2026 insisting that he is the only one who can sort out what is not yet settled.
NRM supporters from Kampala, Lwengo and Masaka, and other districts, led by the new party national coordinator, Hadijah Namyalo gathered at Kyambogo,  a Kampala suburb, at the office of the NRM party and launched a campaign dubbed, ‘You Are Still Capable.’
The new NRM coordinator, Hadijah Namyalo contended that Museveni has contributed a lot to the development and in a bid to ensure this continues, he should stand again in 2026.
“We came to this conclusion after looking back at what he has achieved since he came to power in 1986 and also the plans he has ahead for us as his Bazukulu,” she said.
Hadijah adduced that many government programs including the  Parish Development Model, Emyooga among others aimed at moving Uganda to middle-income status have been spearheaded by Museveni and hence the need to keep him in power.
The event was attended by a number of NRM diehards including; Kampala central Chairman Salim Uhuru, deputy Nakawa RCC Kasim Kamugisha, several NRM mobilisers, Presidential advisor, Tamale Mirundi, vendors from city markets, student leaders, and the Lwengo LCV Abdalla Kitatta chairperson among others.
Museveni, who has been in power for 26 years, has not yet indicated that he will run for 2026.
They signed a petition to this effect.
The endorsement of President Museveni by the youth leaders comes at a time when another section of youth within the NRM has intensified efforts to front first son, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba as their candidate in 2026.
Muhoozi, too, has not yet affirmed that he will stand in 2026 but he has welcomed initiatives by some young people in NRM to front him for the presidency in 2026.
Ibrahim Kitatta also the LC5 Chairman for Lwengo district who is also the Buganda region NRM youth chairperson revealed that NRM Buganda youth still see Museveni as a strong leader still capable of solving the country’s pressing challenges.
“Many youths are still struggling with unemployment and this challenge can be solved by only an experienced leader who is President Museveni,” said Kitatta.

Gonzaga Mutesasira, the Lwengo NRM youth chairperson, said that they have decided to back President Museveni to safeguard the country’s wealth like oil and other natural resources.
“As drilling of our oil nears, we need a strong leader who can protect it,” Mutesasira said.
Nicholas Nuwagira the NRM youth league chairperson for western Uganda was tasked with the responsibility of delivering the petition to the president.
Known for her dynamic and aggressive mobilization skills, it was not a hard decision for NRM Chairman and President of Uganda, H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to choose Hadija Namyalo Uzeiye as the new Senior Presidential Advisor/Head, Office of the National Chairman.
Hadija’s deployment comes days after Mzee was quoted during the International Youth day celebrations that were held in Gulu saying;
The Office of the National Chairman NRM is established in accordance with chapter 4; clause 14 sub section 1 of the NRM Constitution as adopted on 31st March, 2003 which spells out the roles of the National Chairman of NRM.
The Office is created largely to support the National Chairman to implement the principles and policies of the NRM and other things necessary for the good of NRM.
The National Chairman of the NRM is the supreme leader of the Party. He is the Chairperson of the National Conference (NC) and the National Executive Council (NEC) and he convenes and presides over their meetings.
He is the Chief Spokesperson of NRM and he gives guidance to all NRM organs including the NRM Secretariat. He ensures that the policies and principles of NRM are implemented.
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is a man of strong convictions and rare courage. He takes risks and pursues national interests above his personal comfort and safety. He is a result-oriented leader, whose calling to politics is borne out of a deep and unwavering commitment to finding lasting solutions to the challenges of society.
While there, Senior presidential advisor on media, Joseph Tamale Mirundi noted that Museveni is still around for 10 years and he shouldn’t hand over power to someone who will drive the country back to where it was (before Mr. Museveni captured power).
He added, “Museveni so far has no replacement. Among all the contenders, there is no one with the experience required, after all, there is no term limits.
“The problem is infighting. The opposition is too weak to be regarded as threat. The problem is within.”
He displays exceptional understanding of the historical and social challenges of African societies. This is what inspired his direct involvement in the liberation and emancipation of his countrymen and women.
