Speaker Anita Among has confirmed her attendance and participation in this year’s Ekyooto Ha Mpango Festival which will take place between 11-14 November 2021 in Fort Portal.
The speaker was responding to an invitation from the His Majesty King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, delivered to her by a delegation of Kingdom officials led by Prime Minister Steven Kiyinji, at her residence in Kampala on Wednesday afternoon.
The four-day event, which is the biggest festival in Fort Portal, is organized by the Kingdom with the main aim of promoting culture, tradition and domestic tourism in Uganda.
Speaking during the meeting, Among stressed the need to have such activities that showcase Uganda’s diverse culture and tourist attractions to the outside world.
“I thank His Majesty King Oyo Nyimba for the invite and I look forward to joining him for the Royal walk, and other activities,’’ she said
She added: “Uganda is gifted by nature, we have so many beautiful things that can translate into revenue from tourism. As Parliament, we shall play our role in the promotion of tourism in Uganda.’’
Among also pledged to support the Kingdom in its quest to protect its land from encroachers.
She acknowledged the vital role cultural institutions play in giving the youths direction and stressed the need for them to be protected and empowered.
“Cultural institutions have the power to transform societies, strengthen communities and create a sense of identity and belonging for people. As Parliament of Uganda, we are ready to support the kingdom, especially now that there is a Memorandum of Understanding in place that was agreed upon by His Excellence the President, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni,’’ she pledged.
