President Yoweri Museveni has Tuesday, October 4, 2022, promoted First Son Lt. Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba to the rank of full General, which is one of the highest ranks in the military.
President Yoweri Museveni who is the Commander in Chief of Defence forces on Tuesday promoted his son Muhoozi Kainerugaba from the rank of Lieutenant General to General but dropped him as the Commander of the Land Forces.
General is the highest rank in the hierarchy of Uganda People’s Defence Forces.
Gen Muhoozi has been replaced by Maj Gen Kayanja Muhanga, the current commander of Operation Shujaa in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Gen. Muhanga was also promoted from the rank of Major General to Lieutenant General.
Muhoozi will however continue to serve as the Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations.
The army has congratulated Muhoozi Kainerugaba upon his promotion from the rank of Lieutenant General to General.
In a press statement dated Oct 4, 2022, the army confirmed that Muhoozi and Kayanja were promoted, adding that the two army generals deserve to be promoted.
However, the President has dropped him as the Commander Land Forces of the Uganda Peoples Defence Forces. ;
Muhoozi has been replaced by Maj. Gen. Kayanja Muhanga, who was heading Operation Shujaa in DR Congo.
Lt. Gen. Muhoozi will remain the Senior Presidential Advisor on Military operations. ;
Muhoozi had hinted on Tuesday afternoon that he had held a meeting with his father in the morning and that he was due to announce changes in the army. ;
“I had a good discussion with my great father this morning. Apparently, my tweets scared Kenyans too much! He will announce the changes. There is a special prayer I shall make for our army,” Muhoozi tweeted. ;
It was not yet clear whether the changes were caused by the controversial tweets the General had shared recently about Kenya. ;
