Makerere, Kampala-Uganda: Makerere University will hold its 72 nd Graduation Ceremony for five days (Monday 23 rd to Friday 27 th
May 2022) at the Freedom Square.

The Chancellor, Professor Ezra Suruma will preside over the Graduation Ceremony. During the 72 nd
Graduation Ceremony, the Chancellor will confer degrees and award diplomas to 12, 474 Graduands.
To be specific, 6538 (52%) are female and 5936 (48%) are male.
On each graduation day, the Graduands and Invited guests should be seated in the Freedom Square
by 8:00am. In line with the invitation card, each graduand is expected to come with only two (2)
people to the Freedom Square.
The 72 nd Graduation Ceremony of Makerere University will take place in the Freedom Square with
adherence to SOPs to curb the spread of COVID-19. Graduands and invited guests should wear face
masks (covering the nose and mouth) throughout the graduation ceremony.
As per the communication issued to Graduands and invited guests, Cellular phones or mobile phones
will not be allowed at the graduation ceremony.
H. E President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is expected to grace the first day of the graduation ceremony
(Monday 23rd May 2022) with his personal presence. The First Lady and Minister of Education and
Sports, Hon. Janet Kataaha Museveni will also attend the Ceremony on the first day of the
graduation (Monday 23rd May 2022).
On Monday 23rd May 2022, the Chancellor-Prof. Ezra Suruma will confer degrees and award
diplomas to Graduands from the following Colleges:
1. College of Health Sciences
2. College of Natural Sciences
3. School of Law

72nd Grad: PROCESSION,SECURITY, PARKING, Mon 23rd May 2022
1. PARKING (1st day of the Graduation Ceremony, Monday 23rd May 2022)
Parking at the following locations is PROHIBITED: in front of Social Sciences building, in front of
Senate Building, along the University Road, along Pool Road and along Quarry Road.
2. PROCESSION (1st day of the Graduation Ceremony, Monday 23rd May 2022)
Categories of University Officials and staff who received communication to be part of the academic
procession and were tested for COVID-19 in the Freedom Square (on 20th and 21st May 2022),
should reach Makerere University Central Teaching Facility 1 (CTF1) latest 8:00am.
Please come along with a valid Identification Card. When you reach CTF1, you are requested to
remain on Level 2. The team from the Department of the Academic Registrar will give you details
while at that particular assembly point.
Kindly note that you are required to follow the security guidelines that will be provided. You will
receive a briefing from Protocol and Security regarding your movement from CTF1 to the Freedom
Square.
Mobile Phones will not be allowed at the Freedom Square. You are also expected to strictly follow
the SOPs including wearing your mask (covering the nose and mouth) throughout the graduation
ceremony.
3. CATEGORIES OF PEOPLE TO USE MAKERERE UNIVERSITY MAIN GATE
On Monday 23rd May 2022, only those classified by Protocol as Very Very Important Persons
(VVIPs), Very Important Persons (VIPs) and any other person who received a parking sticker
(permitting access through the Makerere University Main Gate) will use the Main Gate. The specified
dignitaries will drive up to the Round About at CCE (Complex Hall), and they will be guided by traffic
officers up to the parking spaces for such categories.
4. ACCESS TO MAKERERE UNIVERSITY MAIN CAMPUS FOR STAFF, GRADUANDS, OTHER
CATEGORIES OF OFFICIALS, INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL STAKEHOLDERS (Monday 23 rd May 2022)
On Monday 23 rd May 2022, Members of staff, Graduands and members of the University community,
internal and external stakeholders (not classified under Number 3) shall use either the Makerere
University Eastern Gate or Makerere University Western Gate.
**The Western Gate is the one located near Technology/CEDAT through Sir Apollo Kaggwa Road**
** The Eastern Gate is the one located just after Estates and Works Department**
Please come along with a Valid Identification Card. You are humbly required to follow the security
guidelines as you access the Main Campus and/or when you are on Campus.
5. PARKING SPACES FOR STAFF, GRADUANDS, OTHER CATEGORIES OF OFFICIALS, INTERNAL AND
EXTERNAL STAKEHOLDERS (Monday 23rd May 2022)
Parking at the following locations is PROHIBITED: In front of Social Sciences building, in front of
Senate Building, along the University Road, along Pool Road and along Quarry Road.
Please park in the following locations:
a) Â Â Parking slots at the Western side of Makerere University Main Campus (For instance CEDAT
parking, Food Science parking, Lumumba Hall, Mary Stuart Hall, MITSFA e.t.c).
b) Â Â Â Makerere University Sports Grounds (Accessed through the junction heading to School of
Education/Makerere College School).
c)    Makerere University Rugby Grounds (below Nsibirwa Hall)
d) Â Â Â COVAB (College of Veterinary Medicine, Animal Resources and Bio-Security)
6.     SECURITY GUIDELINES
a) You are expected to carry a form of Identification (National Identity Card or Makerere University
Staff ID) to be presented to security upon request. You are humbly required to follow the security
guidelines as you access the Main Campus and/or when you are on Campus.
