OMORO – The National Resistance Movement (NRM) aspirants for the Omoro County parliamentary by-election have agreed to stand down and support Andrew Ojok Oulanyah, son of the former Speaker of Parliament, Jacob Oulanyah.
In a statement, the NRM spokesperson, Emmanuel Dombo, said the aspirants made the decision during a meeting with President Yoweri Museveni, who is also the party chairman.
“In order to maintain party unity and cohesion, all NRM aspirants decided to support Andrew Oulanya because it is decent to honor his father’s legacy,” Dombo said.
The meeting was attended by NRM leaders who also concurred to support Andrew Oulanya for the by-election.
The by-election to replace Oulanyah who died last month is slated to take place on May 25, 2022.
The nomination of candidates will take place from May 12-13 at Omoro District Council Hall, according to the Electoral Commission roadmap.
The campaigns are slated to take place from May 16-24, 2022.
The NRM supporters who expressed interest in the seat include Andrew Oulanya, Omoro District LC V Chairman, Douglas Peter Okello, former Gulu deputy RDC Francis Rwotlonyo, Andrew Olal, and Omoro LC5 Speaker, Richard Bongowat Luganya.
Others are Patrick Okot, a lecturer at Gulu University, and FDC’s Engineer Terrence Odonga.
Ojok has also got the support of his clan elders who have asked him to contest for the Parliamentary seat in order to keep his father’s legacy.
