NEWS– A Columbian researcher Ramirez Amaya Sabastian from Arizona State was on Sunday killed by an elephant in Kibale National park.

Sebastian and his research assistant both stationed at Ngogo research station in Kibale National park were carrying out their routine research activities in the forest when the tragedy happened.

A statement from Uganda wildlife Authority signed by the Public Relations Officer Hanji Bashir, as the duo carried out their research, they came across a lone elephant that charged at them thus running towards different directions.

The charged elephant according to Hanji followed Sebastian and trampled on him leading to his death.

“UWA staff in Kibale working with Police in Fort Portal have so far retrieved Sebastian’s body for further management” UWA statement reads in parts.

Hanji adds that it’s a regrettable and unfortunate incident the Authority had not witnessed in the last 50 years in Kibale National park.
