The first truck to cross from Rwanda into Uganda got stuck in the middle of the road which is under construction especially in the no-man’s land.

Buses and other official vehicles were seen in the queue on the Rwandan side of Gatuna, ready to be cleared and cross over to Uganda.

Uganda officials were expected at the border at the time of filing this report.

This comes after the government of Rwanda on Thursday, January 27, announced it will re-open its main border with Uganda as part of efforts to restore bilateral ties.

The border has remained closed for most traffic for three years after Rwanda failed to secure assurance from their Ugandan counterparts that the targeting of Rwandan nationals in Uganda would stop, on top of other grievances to the leadership in Kampala
