The 51-year-old is alleged to have sent 66 text messages and made 18 calls in breach of an apprehended violence order, having initially been arrested in October following a report of a domestic violence incident involving a former girlfriend.

Slater was originally charged with use (of a) carriage service to menace/harass/offend and stalk/intimidate.

Slater – who admitted himself into care for “health and mental issues” after that initial incident in Sydney – was taken to Manly police station on Wednesday after the apparent breach and initially denied bail before it was granted by the magistrate on strict conditions at Manly Local Court.

Slater played a total of 74 tests for Australia as well as 42 one-day internationals and spent 15 years as a cricket commentator after retiring in 2004.

Australian broadcaster Seven Network removed Slater last month after three years with the company after his furious social media tirade against Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison.

Slater said Morrison had “blood on (his) hands” after the government temporarily banned Australians from returning home from India during a major Covid-19 outbreak in the country.
