Women Journalists Association Uganda (WJAU) launches in Uganda amid Women Journalists Rights violation.

KAMPALA, UGANDA: Women Journalists  focused Association has been initiated in Uganda as a central umbrella to particularly front issues of Women while executing their profession.

Ms. Mumbejja Shamim, the President of the Association that the idea came after observing avoidable challenges facing Journalist but unaddressed by the existing Journalists’ leadership. She says female journalists have many times been victims of circumstances.

Mumbejja highlights that the Umbrella is looking forward to bring about Unit amongst Journalists most especially the female.

Fighting for female journalists’ rights and improving their welfare both in field and in-house by engaging different stakeholders and have issues addressed.

Harnessing ways of fighting harassment against female journalists as it has been severally visible in our country Uganda.

She clings to Media House owners and managers to up the salaries as many journalists work a lot but most of them earn scanty salaries which crumbles their wellbeing.

She asked government through the line ministry and other stakeholders to secure for them the land where they will be running their operations.

Nalusiba Halimah a journalist attached Muslim founded Bilal Fm cited some challenges they face while in field that give the hard time while executing their job that include;

Withholding information by the masses, police brutality among many.

The launch gathered many journalists including males, Nkata who spoke on behalf of male journalists present on the day called on leaders to pay off for the works journalists extend in their operations.

He calls for cooperation between journalists as some have used such opportunity to be opportunists hence thriving on the top of those they lead.

Nansubuga Hawa, the Kawempe Division LCV Lord Councilor to Kampala Capita City Authority (KCCA) has pledged continued support to Journalists when in need as they play a big role in uplifting them.

She says any issues concerning a lady is an issue of the nation so must be handled with ease and immediately and based on this to commend Mumbejja Shamim for thinking genius.

WJAU has been launched at a time when Women Journalists’ rights are being violate in various instances and with over ten Journalists forums, their issues have not been given priority accordingly.
