Uganda men’s national cricket team, the Cricket Cranes, made light work of Malawi to get off the mark at the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Sub Regional Africa Qualifier Group A.

The victory was built at the back of good fielding from Laurence Mahatlane’s side who managed to restrict Malawi to just 98/7.

Then Right handed batsman Simon Ssesazi and Saud Islam knocked off the runs with ease and swag to propel the Cranes to a deserved victory.

Malawi who won the toss, had a promising start and it took the intervention of Riazat Ali Sha to break the opening partnership when he bowled Gift Kasonkho with the last ball of the 13th over.

Malawi toiled and collapsed from 71/1 to 86/4 as Uganda’s quality bowling surfaced through Bilal Hassan 2-12, Riazat 2-12 and Frank Akankwasa 2-10.

Ssesazi carried his Pearl of Africa T20 Series form from Entebbe to IPRC when he hit a quick unbeaten 62 off 39 balls, which was littered with 10 boundaries and Saud added 31 as Uganda cruised to a deserved victory.

“It has been a great pleasure to play for my country, these are good stats and I will not stop here, I just want to continue doing the best for my country. I promise that I will deliver more,” said Ssesazi.

“It was not that easy though but I just made sure that I did the simple things right, follow the KPIs and team strategies.

“The boys are all up after today’s performance and we will be ready to go again.”

Uganda face hosts and wounded Rwanda on Sunday who fell to Ghana by five wickets in the opener.

Lesotho, Eswatini, Ghana and Seychelles are still on Uganda’s menu with only the top team in Group A after a round robin reach the regional finals.
