Uganda’s Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon Rebecca Kadaga has officially opened the Common Wealth Youth Inclusion regional Conference at Parliament where the youth decried the monetarization of politics which has barred them from participating in politics.
The two day conference is aimed at advancing youth political participation and leadership in Africa.
Speaking during the conference, the Chairperson of National Youth Council (NYC) Lilian Aber told delegates and the youth that the nomination fees for the different positions are very high for the youth and they cannot afford to pay.
“Asking young people to pay 2m or 3m to contest is just as good as not saying they are not ready to contest,”she noted
