Police are investigating after a man who was caught on camera hurling racist abuse at black passengers on the London Underground was then knocked out with a single punch.

Videos posted to social media on Saturday show the man, who is white, shouting at a group of young black men in the same tube carriage for several minutes.

He can be heard telling them: “This is my home and you’re all going back” before exclaiming “You’re black!” when one of the group demands his name.

As the Central line train pulls into Bank station the victims of the prolonged racist rant walk past him to leave the train, prompting their accuser to stand up to them and ball his hands into fists.

As they step onto the platform, one of the men reaches back and throws a single sudden punch to the jaw of the white man.

He can be seen collapsing onto the floor of the carriage, appearing to have been knocked unconscious.

A spokesperson for British Transport Policesaid they were “aware of two videos on social media showing an incident on a Central Line Underground train on 15 August”.

“Enquiries are ongoing, and any witnesses or anyone with information is asked to contact BTP by texting 61016 or calling 0800 40 50 40 quoting reference 167 of 16/08/20.”

Throughout the incident several other passengers in the same carriage remonstrate with the man, with one woman interrupting him to say “Look, you’ve had your five minutes of fame, now f**k off and get out of the train”.

He ignores her and shouts: “It’s popular now, innit, it’s popular… this is my home, you’re all going back.”

When one of the black men asks where he is supposed to be going, their assailant replies: “You know where you’re going”.
